Communications and technology have advanced that aside from the conventional telephone and regular mail, other means are now available.
Examples include email, texting, and online-enabled avenues such as internet telephony (where one can have an online number) and social networking sites have been adopted by most everybody. Social networking sites have become a highly popular way for Thais to stay connected no matter where they are. Some of the popular social networking media sites include:
- Buzz - a new service that goes beyond status messages; enables users to share updates, photos, videos, and start conversations about the things users find interesting; may also be incorporated with email (ie, G-mail).
- Facebook - a social utility or platform that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them
- Friendster - a social network site with emphasis on genuine friendships and the discovery of new people through friends
- - LinkedIn - a stie where millions of professionals use to exchange information, ideas, and opportunities
- MySpace - a site where one can find friends and classmates, meet new people, listen to free music, build playlists, share photos, watch videos, etc.
- Multiply - a site where users can create, share and discuss blogs, photos, videos and music with others, post movie or book reviews, or share a calendar of events.
- Twitter - a microblogging site wherein one can share and discover what’s happening right now, anywhere in the world; a service that enables its users to send and read messages (tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters and delivered to the author's subscribers (followers).
Aside from these, there are photo-sharing sites such as Photobucket and Flickr.
Given that the communications tools have become much more varied and relatively much cheaper (if not free) than in the past, it becomes much more compelling for Thais to stay connected each and every day. |
